Dewalt Drill

Drilling tips for your DeWalt drill and bits.

The DeWalt 9.6-volt 3/8-inch Cordless Drill/Driver is perfect for the occasional do-it-yourselfer, and it's a good drill for the price. It features a single sleeve ratcheting chuck which grips the bit nice and tight, an adjustable clutch, and a comfortable rubber grip. It's compact and lightweight - just 3.4 lbs. It comes with a one year manufacturer's warranty. Also included are two batteries, a charger, a drill bit and a heavy duty carrying case. A drill is a powerful machine, and you should always use proper safety precautions when using any power tool. It is a good idea to wear safety goggles when drilling. Dust or bits of wood can be ejected at quite a speed. Be sure your goggles are not overly scratched or dusty, since you want to see what you are doing as clearly as possible. Use a light in tight, dark spaces. Do not wear necklaces or loose clothing which could get caught in any power tool.

Make sure you are drilling in a safe spot. You must avoid pipes and electrical wires. An AC detector will locate live wires. Some stud and joist finders are designed to also detect pipes and wires.

Use the correct bit: Drilling into wood, metal, masonry and ideally requires the use of different drill bits. Remember that using the wrong type of bit will only you're your job harder, but you may also ruin the bit. Specialized bits are marked as such on their packages. Drilling in most surfaces should not require a large amount of force on your part. The drill should do most of the work. If you find it is difficult to make a hole in a particular surface, you may be using the wrong type of bit, the bit may be dull, or you may need a hammer drill.
When drilling into wood, the bit may get clogged. Usually, just pulling out the drill a tad while it is spinning will prevent this from happening. If the bit needs to be de-clogged, avoid doing so with your fingers. Bits can get very hot. Use a small screwdriver or a nail. With a little preparation and proper precautions, you will get the full enjoyment of your Dewalt drill.
